With iOS 14, Apple has made widgets look far better on the iPhone, and corporations are embracing the new design. After releasing an update to the Google app with a group of latest widgets, the Mountain View giant has today released an update to the Gmail app that brings a replacement iOS 14 widget for the favored email service.
The widget is out there with Gmail version 6.0.201101, and in contrast to the Google app’s selection of widgets, Gmail only brings one widget size, a minimum of as of immediately. As you’ll see from the screenshot below, the widget comes with a handy email search bar, along side buttons to compose a replacement email, and a tile that shows the unread count; both useful things.
Tapping on the compose button exposes the Gmail app straight into the compose window, which is handy if you’re like me and sometimes end up shooting off quick emails. The unread button basically just exposes your inbox. However, i might have liked it if it opened Gmail with the “is:unread” search filter active. That way we will directly see just the unread emails.
Anyway, it’s an honest widget, and if you would like to use it, here’s the way to add the new Gmail widget to your home screen:
After updating the Gmail app, press and hold anywhere on the house screen to enter ‘jiggle mode’. Tap on the plus icon on the top-left to look at all the available widgets.
Tap on ‘Gmail’ to ascertain the new widget. you’ll then drag and drop it anywhere you would like on the house screen.
